A faraglione is a rocky cliff, similar to a tower, that rises in the water: in Capri the Faraglioni are one of the main attractions.
Faraglioni is in fact a generic name, but those of Capri are the Faraglioni: these sour rocks, corroded by the sea and the wind, create an unique panorama. In Capri there are today three faraglioni, that survived the erosion, and have different names: the first one, linked to the coast, is called Stella, or Faraglione di Terra; the second, that it is smallest, and has a hole in the middle that creates a passage, is simply the Faraglione di Mezzo, and the third, the outer one, is called Scopolo or Faraglione di Fuori.
Not far there is another cliff, called Monacone, that can be considered the fourth faraglione. The Faraglioni are the ideal habitat for a rare variety of lizarda, the Blue Lizard: it is the only place where this strange animal lives; its strange colour is perhaps useful in order to mimic with the sea and the sky).
In order to appreciate the sight of these splendid natural monuments, besides the boat trip, we advise the walking tour of Tragara: it is a road placed side by side by elegant villas that endes with a terrace where you have a wonderful view on the Faraglioni and on all the bay of Marina Piccola. Under the terrace of Tragara starts the pathway that leads to the Faraglioni.
